Speaking of water, take your dog to visit Barkin Springs, which is located east of Barton Springs. This unofficial dog park is home to cool spring water that will feel quite refreshing on a hot summer day. Be mindful of algae levels and check before entering the water. During non-algae seasons, Barkin Springs is packed with humans and dogs swimming along the shore.
Auditorium Shores is a 4.5-acre pet-friendly attraction close to the downtown area. Outdoor concerts and festivals are held here quite often. When there isn’t an event being held, people enjoy playing games, flying kites, having a picnic, or playing fetch with their canine companion. Auditorium Shores is right next to Lady Bird Lake.
Speaking of Lady Bird Lake, take your dog for a run around the lake on the Ann & Roy Butler trail. You can also rent a paddle board or kayak from the Austin Paddle Shack and head out onto the lake together. Don’t forget a life jacket for your pup!
Take a stroll through the stunning Zilker Botanical Garden to enjoy the beauty of nature. Zilker Park also features an off-leash area where you can let your dog play and socialize with other pups. This park is split into two sections: north and south side.
